Named after the year two women first put their hat in the ring for the state office of attorney general, the 1881 Initiative is the Democratic Attorneys General Association’s (DAGA) program to see more Democratic women run for the office of Attorney General—and win.
The goal is to elect women to fifty-percent of the Democratic Attorneys General seats by the end of the 2022 cycle.
As the People’s Lawyers, it’s imperative we reflect the people we serve. Women are more than half the population but hold less than a third of elected offices. In fact, right now, only five of our 23 Democratic Attorneys General are women.
*Please note that attending this Taste of Emerge 1881 Initiative training does not make you an alumnae of Emerge America or Emerge Washington. Attendees are encouraged to apply for the six-month training program through Emerge Washington.
For more information, please contact Karen Besserman, karen@emergewa.org
Attendees will be plugged into the Democratic Attorneys General Association’s 1881 Initiative after attendance.
