Sharlett grew up in the Tri-Cities, Washington. The daughter of immigrant farmworkers, Sharlett is a first generation American and the first in her family to graduate from college. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations from Washington State University and completed training programs at The George Washington University and The American University. After college, Sharlett dedicated herself to serving our communities through government.
While working in Congress, Sharlett managed immigration policy for U.S. Representative Albio Sires during negotiations on comprehensive immigration reform. She worked closely with immigrant communities to ensure their voices were elevated. In 2013, the first year of Open Enrollment under the Affordable Care Act, Sharlett led a bilingual outreach effort that helped thousands of Americans get health care for the first time.
After working in federal government, Sharlett took a position at the Washington State Legislature, continuing her work to defeat barriers to public resources for our communities. She established Spanish language resources at the Senate Democratic Caucus, expanding access to state government to a greater number of Washingtonians. After working at the State Legislature, Sharlett took a position with the Office of the Governor where she worked with state agencies and federal leaders to protect Washingtonians against harmful Trump policies.
Sharlett’s progressive track record protecting the environment, championing immigrants, eliminating barriers to health care, and promoting a more inclusive government is in line with the values of the 29th Legislative District. She’s excited to bring her leadership to her next role as a representative.
Sharlett lives in South Tacoma with her partner, Evan. She is an active member of the 29th District Democrats and a volunteer with Tacoma Community House.
